Who we are

After decades of experience in the film and TV industry, Mary Bell and Adam Dawtrey founded Bofa Productions in 2013, based in Scotland, to make feature documentaries. 

Mary was previously deputy managing director of Hat Trick, where she executive produced comedy shows including Father Ted and Have I Got News For You? In 1989, she produced the Oscar-winning short Work Experience.

Adam was previously European Editor of Variety.

Mary and Adam first worked together for the 8 ½ Foundation, founded by Mark Cousins and Tilda Swinton in 2009 to introduce Scottish children to classic cinema from around the world.

In 2013, Bofa produced the feature documentary A Story of Children and Film by Mark Cousins, which premiered in official selection at Cannes. 

Bofa’s other credits include: Too Few To Mention (short, 2014, Mark Cousins); Antonia Bird: From EastEnders to Hollywood (2016, Susan Kemp); Stockholm My Love (2016, Mark Cousins); The Eyes of Orson Welles (2018, Mark Cousins); Iorram (2021, Alastair Cole); The Story of Looking (2021, Mark Cousins); Celluloid Underground (2023, Ehsan Khoshbakht) and A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things (2024, Mark Cousins).
